Day 95

Today we woke up at 4am! and we caught an Uber to the airport. My mum was surprised because the meter started at 1500 Turkish lira, and at the end he said we needed to pay 2200 turkish lira for a 15 min Uber ride. H thought he could over charge us because we are tourists, but he realised my my mum spoke Turkish, so he reduced it down to 1000 turkish lira, and my mum was really tired, so she agreed, She pulled out her card, and ge said "its an extra 100 lit if you can by card". This isn't uncommon, a lot of people get scammed in Türkiye.

We finally landed in Cairo, and the capital city of Egypt. We were on a tour, so we met our guide, and drove an hour to our hotel. My dad was happy because our tour guide did everything, like going through immigration. If you are wondering why it took us so long, here are a number of reasons why:

reason 1: I always though that Giza and Cairo were the same, but it turns out that they are 2 different cities separated by the Nile, our hotel was in the top left corner of Giza, near the pyramids.

reason 2: The population of Cairo/ Giza as a district is over 40 million, and the city over 25 million. In comparison, all of Australia has 20 million people, so the traffic is insane. It's different to the traffic in Istanbul though. Istanbul, everything is in order, you just don't move, in Cairo, it moves, just everything is crowded and nothing is in order. Cars and motor bikes were in and out of each other, and dad was surprised that mum wasn't terrified.

Something that surprised me was that I always thought Egypt was super rich, but actually it isn't, and many of the apartment buildings are half finished to avoid paying tax.

In the afternoon, we went to the old Egyptian museum (which wasn't part of our tour), and we saw a few more mummy's and ancient Egyptian statues and stuff, We also was Tutenkhamun's coffin and jewellery, ad the most famous of all, his pure gold mask.

Mum took a photo of the mask, and the guy made her delete it, and then we made her go into trash and permanently delete it, so we had to take a photo of a smaller one without any colours. There was also a gift shop and I bough souvenir coin # 20.

We went to dinner, and you know how it's hard being allergic to walnut in Turkey? Well, in Egypt it's hard being pescatarian, because they put meat in everything. My alternatives were eating pizza and pasta, but mum said that Italy is over, so I had to eat protein. The only meat I eat is pork, but that's banned in Egypt.
